About
Alkantara Fest is an event dedicated to the rediscovery and enhancement of folk and world music, both auteur and contemporary, through research on musical styles currently in use. The festival aims to safeguard the depth of musical traditions and cultural roots while projecting them into a current international panorama. Established in 2003, it promotes Sicily as a land of music and tourism, relaunching related sectors including musical craftsmanship and production by Sicilian artists. The festival emphasizes sustainability through use of local zero-waste food, compostable plates and crockery, and material recycling. Concerts are held in atmospheric and unusual locations amid nature, supported by collateral activities such as dance, workshops, and tourist excursions. The event integrates local food, wine, and beer offerings from local producers, featuring nightly jam sessions with diverse artists in a spirit of cooperation and sharing.
