Altofest Naples

About

Founded in 2011 as an artistic and political act of resistance, Altofest is an international festival that cultivates a community rooted in the principle of "poetic citizenship," inspiring unexpected forms of civic participation and collective imagination. The festival invites professional contemporary live artists (performance, theatre, dance, interdisciplinary practices) to participate in two-week residencies in private homes, where artists live and work alongside local residents called "Space Donors." This approach disrupts conventional boundaries between art and life, allowing artistic creation to become a shared experience within intimate domestic spaces. Selected artists develop their proposed work during the residency and present it to the public during programming days following. The festival brings together diverse social components of the urban fabric to foster dialogue, creativity, and experimentation, challenging traditional hierarchies and reimagining the relationship
