Bildstörung is a biennial festival for contemporary performing arts in public space, held in the predominantly rural region of East Westphalia-Lippe, Germany, centred on the city of Detmold. The festival brings together national and international ensembles presenting theatre, dance, contemporary circus, site-specific interventions and hybrid, participatory formats conceived specifically for public space. Conceptualising public space as a relational and socio-political arena rather than simply a site of presentation, the festival emphasises accessibility through predominantly admission-free, internationally premiered productions staged outside established cultural infrastructures, and is a member of the European network IN SITU.
