Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin, France
An eight-day festival celebrating the joyful art of laughter through early baroque farces under the stars in the Périgord noir region of France. Each evening features a different candlelit show exploring the life and legacy of Tabarin, a 1620s jester and outdoor performer from Paris whose work is said to have inspired Molière and other great authors and actors. The festival examines what influenced Tabarin and his influence on theatre, featuring texts from the mid-sixteenth to mid-seventeenth centuries, baroque music, taverns, dances, and popular songs of the period.
