Jyväskylä Festival

Jyväskylä Festival

Jyväskylä, Finland

About

The oldest continuously organised city festival in the Nordic countries, founded in 1955. Jyväskylä Festival has become one of Europe's most significant summer festivals, hosting world-leading composers, architects, musicians, filmmakers, philosophers, researchers, dancers and theatre makers. The festival centres on high-quality artistic content, showcasing new works and creators, addressing societal themes, and engaging audiences through participatory approaches. The festival features music, theatre, dance, circus, visual arts and public discussions, with a particular focus on international non-verbal theatre including mime, clowning, physical theatre and new circus. Many events take place in buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, which were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2026.
