About
Street theatre festival "Šermukšnis" ("The Rowan-Tree") is held every two years in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Having started as a chamber festival of performances, it has grown into a prestigious event for the whole country. The festival presents not only performances but also various promotions, carnival processions, improvisation "here and now", and colourful actions with seasoned theatre, moving over time from indoor premises to streets and squares. "Šermukšnis" presents theatres from different countries and regions, looking unique and different, introducing audiences in Klaipeda to theatres that go beyond the limits of grey everyday life, exploring death, resurrection and the secrets of joy. The festival aims to overcome urban theatrical provincialism through resistance to the isolation of experiments, cultural interaction, and sensitivity to change.
